Fr. Jon Buffington will instruct advanced students in completing the icon of St. Scholastica, sister of St. Benedict of Nursia, as the companion icon to the icon St. Benedict, to be written this summer at the Advanced Iconography Retreat at Mount Angel.
Skills to be acquired in this icon: painting the face of an aged female saint, mixing “black” using many different colors to creating a monastic garment, garment highlighting, a dove, and wooden crozier.
Painting St. Scholastica will give you practice for St. Benedict, who will be the subject of the iconography retreat at Mount Angel Abbey this July 7-12, 2024.
This class meets on Monday afternoons from 2-4:30pm, January 29 – May 6, 2024.
