This comprehensive and intense mini-course is designed for entry level iconography students and will instruct them using an icon of St. Antony of the Desert, a desert father and founder of early monasticism.
You will learn how to see its lines without the distraction of color to create a black and white study. You will also learn to re-create the underlying geometry of the icon to help you to analyze other icons as a step in writing them.
Building on this knowledge, you will draw the icon and apply highlights using black and white pigments. The course is intended to be an in-depth way to experience iconography and to apply this experience to other icons.
About Our Instructor:
Sister Anne Sekul is a Sister of Mercy whose primary ministry has been in education as a teacher, principal, and school psychologist. With a love of art, she has worked in wood, watercolor, pastels, and pencil. In 2001, she dedicated herself to becoming an iconographer and participated with the Iconographic Arts Institute in Mount Angel for almost 20 years. She felt iconography was a good fit for her culturally, as her Croatian father instilled in her a love and reverence for icons from early childhood.
