THE MARIAN ICON STUDIO COURSE is designed to give advancing iconography students the confidence to draw and paint their chosen icon of Mary. Unlike our Beginning level pedagogical courses where everyone is instructed in painting the same icon, this studio course will enable you to use the geometry and drawing skills you acquired in Byzantine Drawing I to draw your icon based on an approved historic icon of Mary. Each student will work independently with expert guidance of Ania Kocurek-Williams.
Students are responsible for conducting thorough research about their selected icon to write educational and engaging text for exhibition showcards for the Marian Iconography Exhibition at Mount Angel Abbey in July 2025.
Professional European Linden wood iconboards with wedges, with both smooth and cradle (arc) options will be offered for sale. Students are responsible for purchasing their own iconboard.
PREREQUISITE: Byzantine Drawing I and at least 3 icons in our program, or by instructor approval.
This class meets Tuesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
