Description
ONLINE BYZANTINE DRAWING II will teach you the geometry of the full-standing iconographic figure, which is built on its own unique geometry that differs from the structure of the face taught in Byzantine Drawing I. This is why you may enroll in Byzantine Drawing II even if you have not completed Byzantine Drawing I, which is certainly helpful, but not a prerequisite.
In addition to the geometry and Byzantine drawing techniques of the full standing figure and their various corresponding garments, students will study and draw the classic dynamic 3/4 poses based on the inverted S shape, static frontal poses, and analyze the relationships between parts of the body expressed in terms of the modules. Students will learn how to scale their drawings with both large and small renderings. To complement the practical drawing elements, we’ll include history by comparing icons from different eras to discover how the body form evolved over time in iconography.
Online programs are generally shorter in duration than our in-person courses because time spent correcting homework and providing personalized feedback occurs digitally and individually.
We use Google Classroom to communicate, share assignments, return feedback and post links to our recorded lectures. You will receive a pdf of the extensive step by step manual, along with instructions on how to participate in this class. While it is not required to attend the live class, it is helpful.
This online class meets via Zoom on Tuesdays from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm.
