Theme Depicted:  In this icon of St. John the Baptist, John is portrayed as an ascetic dressed in a camel hair garment.  His chest is emphasized to show that he is the athlete of God, as an athlete perseveres to the finish.  His sunken cheeks and exceedingly thin arms reflect his ascetic lifestyle.
